SEVERAL BENEFITS OF U.S. COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION
Vessel is awarded an official number which is a permanent and unique identifier.
Title assurance. When an abstract of title is ordered, the chain of ownership may be easily reviewed. This simplifies the process of checking for pending liens during the transfer of a vessel.
If the vessel is in distress, lost, or stolen, some of the benefits of being documented are that it offers greater protection under federal laws.
No state number. In most states, you do not have to display state numbers on the hull when the boat is documented.
The main requirements to be eligible for USCG documentation are that the vessel must weigh 5 net tons (volume measurement) and the owners must be citizens of the United States. In certain circumstances, a vessel owner may apply for a Delaware registration if a owner is a non-citizen. We can assist in this process too.
U. S. Coast Guard (USCG) documentation and the application for a state title or registration of a vessel can be a complex and time-consuming task for boat owners. Our responsive and experienced staff can assist yacht owners with USCG documentation (recreational, coastwise, and fishery endorsements) and other services. A documented vessel refers to the federal registration of a recreational or commercial boat with the United States Coast Guard and is recognized internationally as it classifies a vessel as U.S. flagged which facilitates entry to foreign ports. As a member of the American Vessel Documentation Association (AVDA), Ocean Yacht Documentation staff is able to stay abreast of legislative matters and maintain close interaction with U.S. Coast Guard representatives.
