We are excited to share that the Recreational Boating and Leadership Council New Market Task Force (of which we are members) continues to make strides with promoting boating to new segments across the U.S.
In 2016, a subgroup of the task force worked on an educational training module. The module was first presented in November at the Marine Marketers of America luncheon during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The module was also presented at the Marine Dealer Conference & Expo during the State of the Industry luncheon. Boating Industry will be hosting a webinar, "Proven Strategies for Engaging New Markets," at 2 p.m. EST on Jan. 5, delivered by NMMA President Thom Dammrich, which will cover all of the statistics and best practices outlined in the training module. An archive of the webinar will be available on the Boating Industry and RBLC websites. The module will also be presented at the International Marina and Boatyard Conference on Jan. 25 at a combined keynote and conference session. The boat parade was dedicated to the late Jack Deckelman of Deckelman Marine Group.
The boat parade is the largest privately led parade in the Mid Atlantic region! Thank you to Baltimore Boating Center (BBC) for being fabulous hosts on their boat! The photo was captured by Brenda from BBC! The U.S. Coast Guard's Office of Auxiliary and Boating Safety released the Strategic Plan of the National Recreational Boating Safety Program 2017 to 2021. It may be of interest to some of you here.
We, at Ocean Yacht Documentation work hard to promote boating safety to all our clients. For new boaters, the winter is a great time to take a boating safety course!! www.uscgboating.org/library/strategic-plan/Strategic-Plan-of-National-Recreational-Boating-Safety-Program-2017-thru-2021.pdf We attended the Blue Angels air show at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, MD over the weekend! We had wonderful weather and were in great company. Fellow fans - sailors and power boaters anchored out to view the spectacular show and shared some of the images below.! If you missed the week long celebration or the air show, enjoy some of the fun here!!
We attended the 46th annual Annapolis boat show yesterday and had a great time! A few days ago we were concerned about Hurricane Matthew's potential impact on the area but we got lucky as it was a beautiful day for sailors - cruisers and racers to come out and tour the fantastic selection of sailboats! We enjoyed interacting with yacht brokers, catching up with industry partners and meeting potential new clients!
It's that time of year when those of us that are fortunate enough to travel south start their journey down the east coast of the U.S. to warmer climates. Although I haven't done the journey myself, I have been fascinated by the stories that my sailor friends have shared over the years. As they each have traveled to various ports, it's been great to learn a little about each area along the ICW. I have also enjoyed reading various blogs and sometimes feel like I have met the sailors as many have been willing to share their personal accounts with the world!
A few years ago, I learned about the ICW rally held each October! The ICW starts in Norfolk and ends in Miami. ICWally.com posts details and updates through out journey. I have included a link to their site outlining the 2016 ICW Rally events. The ICW rally started October 17th this year. I have received reports of boats running aground in North Carolina at Browns Inlet and some other areas. Make sure you check in with Activecaptain.com for updates and comments. Here is a great video link for an introduction video to the ICW by Wally Moran. https://bloggingtheicw.blogspot.com/p/sailing-south-video.html Summer may be over but boating season isn't!! Contact us if you are interested in booking a sailing charter in the Chesapeake Bay or Key West! We can offer several recommendations!
Fall is a great time of year to get out and enjoy some wonderful sailing opportunities! Book a charter, join a sailing club or join some friends for a sail! This was our first year attending the Chesapeake Cowboys docking contest events!! So, what is a docking contest? Learn more by reading the following description from the Chesapeake Cowboys website!
"Boat Docking also known as the Water Rodeo is considered a water sport in which work boats and charter boats compete within their divisions to go from point “A” to get to point “B” and execute a task of tie/lasso of poles for a timed competition. They compete for cash, prizes, trophies and of course bragging rights…. These runs are filled with captains of all ages with some of our youngest captains as young as age 10. This water rodeo is an absolute spectacular to witness and there is truly never a dull moment!!" http://www.chesapeakecowboysboatdocking.com/grand-finale-2016/ We joined the Hospice Cup XXXV team, sailors, sponsors and volunteers for the Blessing of the Fleet last evening at Annapolis Yacht Sales. It was a great evening and we captured a few photos of the event. We are really looking forward to joining all the sailor at the post race shore party this evening at the post race shore party!
